Power System Protection, Relaying and Earthing
Combined course in power system protection, relaying, earthing, bonding, lightning protection and electrical surge protection

About this course
Combining power system protection and relaying with earthing, bonding, lightning protection and transient overvoltage protection, linking fault analysis with protective device operation and earthing system safety in industrial and oil and gas facilities.
What you’ll learn
Power system fault types, their effects on equipment and protection system objectives.
Digital relay and IED principles, current and voltage transformer inputs, and trip circuits.
Overcurrent, earth fault, differential, voltage and frequency protection elements.
Reviewing coordination, selectivity, time-current curves and relay settings.
Protection of feeders, transformers, motors, generators and busbars.
Protective earthing, equipotential bonding, fault current paths, and continuity and resistance tests.
Lightning and transient overvoltage protection, and surge protective devices.
Analysing relay records, test results and faults, and preparing recommendations and technical records.
Days and teaching hours
12 days, totalling 40 hours: 10 days of theory (3 hours per day), one practical day (8 hours), and one examination day (2 hours).
Who is this course for?
Power system protection and relaying engineers and technicians, substation and electrical testing teams, and maintenance and reliability engineers in oil and gas facilities.
